Wednesday, 19 April 2017 17:44Nea Kallikrateia was funded in 1922 from Greek refugees, who came all the way from Eastern Thrace.Its ideal location, just 35km from Thessaloniki and 20km fro the airport, gives the visitors the opportunity for short trips to the rest of Halkidiki, or even to the city of Thessaloniki.Over the years, Nea Kallikratia has increased its touristic development, because of the proximity from Thessaloniki.
Visitors can find splendid organized beaches,beach bars, restaurants, shopping center,cinema and last but not least, night clubs and bars, located in front of the sandy beaches. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Excavations revealed tombstone with gable which represents a young girl with a pigeon on the left hand, which dates back to 440 BC. The finding is kept in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki but the visitors can admire the copy of it, located in the main town square.

Nea Kallikratia beach: Nea Kallikratia is a big tourist place with a few good beaches, of which Vargia is the most popular and awarded a blue flag. It seems that golden sand in Nea Kallikratia is endless. Its beaches are crammed with holiday-goers and tourists, but there are also places which are less crowded and easily accessible. The longest sand stretch is Geoponika – Mikoniatika which is also awarded a blue flag. Town beach, 800 m long, is in the central part of Nea Kallikratia, close to the main square. It is perfect for young people and families with children, as its waters are shallow and crystal clear. Beaches are well maintained and organized, with parasols and sun beds, and they are usually used free of charge if you take drink in a cafe they belong to. There are also “free zones” where you can bring your own parasols and towels. Apart from sun-bathing and swimming, the town beach offers sand sports such as volleyball and football.
